Practice Profile:Introduction:Our practice offers registrars the broadest possible introduction to inner-city and suburban general practice. We are unique because of our size and geographical spread. We serve about 20000 people from 4 sites, 3 in Tooting and one in Raynes Park. Although as a registrar you will always be based at one of the two main Tooting sites, you will have the opportunity to work from the other sites, each of which has its own character and distinctive patient population. Tooting itself is typical of a number of inner London boroughs in that it is a dynamic mix of social classes, wealth, poverty, and representatives of all the peoples and cultures under the sun. General practice in Tooting involves us in getting to grips with social and cultural issues in a big way, but we never forget that we are first and foremost doctors, and we emphasise the provision of high quality, evidence-based medical care as the best service that we can offer our patients, and we ensure that all our registrars are thoroughly grounded in this. The workload can be substantial, but as a registrar you will be introduced to it at your own pace, and in compensation we allow plenty of time for study and recreation, and the on call commitment is very gentle. Your education in general practice will be individualised and personalised to suit your needs.
We have 8 full time or near full time partners and one part time partner. We normally have two registrars and a pre-registration houseman. The doctors who work at Trevelyan Road are shown in the photo. They are Mike Lane, Simon Rohde, Elisabeth Clewing and Penny Smith, who is the trainer there. Three partners work full time at Upper Tooting. There are currently two accredited trainers with two others anticipating accreditation in the near future. The trainers at Upper Tooting will be Dr Judy Roberts and Dr Stephen DeWilde. Dr Mike Lane also works at Upper Tooting. We have a team of 4 Practice Nurses who each specialise in certain fields as well as providing general services. Each site has attached Health Visitors and we have our own practice team of District Nurses who are based at one of our sites. We provide high quality counselling services via a self-managed team. The services we offer: In addition to full general medical services, we currently offer in house outreach clinics in ophthalmology, dermatology, gynaecology , physiotherapy and orthopaedics. As a registrar you would be able to improve your skills where necessary by taking part in these clinics. We also offer minor surgery sessions and we are accredited for Child Health Surveillance and Family Planning and offer training in these areas. The premises: Trevelyan Road surgery is a completely new building inside the shell of an attractive flint faced house in Tooting's only conservation area. The accommodation is to a very high standard, and all public areas are air conditioned. The practice uses the EMIS clinical system and all sites are linked electronically. Trevelyan Road is moving towards paperless consultations. Our Upper Tooting and Tooting Bec surgeries have already reached this stage. We receive all lab results electronically. Full NHS net and Internet access is available from all desktops as is internal and external e-mail. We have libraries on each site to complement the increasing amount of educational material that is available electronically. We hope that this provides you with some useful background information on our practice. We are proud of what we offer and hope that you will wish to learn the art and science of general practice with us. If you have any questions please contact Penny Smith.
