GP trainers:Practice Manager:TBC Practice Profile:Cheam family Practice has 6 partners working from 2 sites approximately two miles apart , Elmbrook Branch and Parkside Branch. The total list size is over 10,000 patients divided between the two sites. There is a full complement of attached staff including Health visitors and District nurses who are based on site at Elmbook Branch. The practice profile will enable the GP registrar to gain a wide variety of experience. There are mainly families and young singles at Elmbrook whereas The Parkside branch in Cheam village has a more settled middle aged and elderly population. The practice was founded in 1983 by Dr Richard Cooling at the premises in Gander Green lane, He works 3 sessions at the surgery working also as Clinical Governance advisor for the Nelson PCT and a Board member. In 1988 the partners acquired the list of a retiring single handed practitioner in Cheam village and this branch moved to the present premises in 1990. The practice has recently been extended to enable us to provide training so one registrar is based at each branch surgery. The TrainersTBC The Training ProgrammeThe aim is to provide a balanced programme and provide the Registrar with plenty of experience while ensuring there is enough time for self directed learning and relaxation. The weekly tutorial programme is planned jointly by the Registrar and Trainer to ensure it covers the Registrars individual learning needs. There will be some joint teaching with both registrars. We have also had experience with Senior Registrar Training. There is 4 week introductory programme. The registrar/Trainer do one joint clinic a week during the training year and the registrar has a weekly clinic set aside for video consultations using the practice video camera. There is a regular half day in addition to the weekly half day release course at St George's. On-call is with the trainer at the local co-op, one session each month. Practice EthosThe ethos of the practice is one of Family. The Family in the practice title refers not only to the patients we treat but also the team spirit we aim to engender among practice team. One of the aims of the Practice as set out in the practice booklet is to provide a high standard of care based on Christian Principles. We aim to address "whole person care" including the spiritual aspects of health and well-being.
