Address:
The Practice: Premises & Staff We are a very, friendly well-established GP Surgery that has operated in Battersea for over 50 years. In 1996, with the help of developers & architects, we constructed a purpose-built medical centre comprising 8 consulting rooms & 3 treatment areas, as well as large administrative and reception offices. The Registrar has his/her personal room and there is ample secure underground parking. We are a PMS practice in Wandsworth PCT and were previously a successful Fundholding practice. The practice is fully computerised using the EMIS system. There are 5 GP partners and 2 salaried GPs serving a population of 11,000 patients. Our other practice members include 3 nurses, a health care assistant and a large administrative support staff. There are also supporting ancillary health professionals in the form of counsellors, physiotherapists and health visitors. We provide a wide range of clinical special interests from Diabetes to Dermatology, and Heart disease to Homeopathy. The practice is open from 9.00am to 6.30pm Monday to Friday and closed at weekends. The Registrar The Registrar’s timetable for a typical week is as follows:
The timetable has been arranged so that the Registrar works along side the Trainer at all times should support and advice be required (Separate arrangements for cover are made when the Trainer is away). About once a month, variations in the timetable occur to accommodate Duty evening Friday surgery and Baby clinic and in future there may also be some adjustment to accommodate a provision for extended hours. There is training & supervision provided by our Out of Hours provider (Harmoni) for the Registrar to achieve the OOA requirements stipulated by the Deanery. The registrar is given an Introductory Pack and has a 2 week induction in order to meet members of the team and gain familiarity with the IT system & local services. An educational agreement, contract and learning plan are completed at the start of training. There is a tutorial every Tuesday but the Register and Trainer meet informally after every surgery to discuss cases. Other members of the practice are also encouraged to take part in teaching; study leave is encouraged and supported. The nMRCGP was introduced in 2007 and all Registrars now will need to pass the exam to complete training and practice as GPs; the practice will support the Registrar in achieving success in the nMRCGP. The Trainer Amer Salim has been a partner in the practice since 1995. He has been a trainer since 2006 and is an examiner for the nMRCGP appointed by the RCGP. Aside from his teaching commitments he is also a member of the Wandsworth LMC and Battersea Practice Based Commissioning Group.
